Going for second fill...advice and questions!

Recommended Posts

Hi Everybody!

I am going for my second fill the end of this month, and while I wish I could be going back to see Dr. Martinez, and have it done under flouro...I just don't have the time to fly across the country right now.

I am using a Dr. in Frederick, MD who seems to come pretty highly recommended...but I am still nervous because she doesn't use flouro. I am still not even sure if I need a fill. Some days I am always hungry and could eat every hour, while other days I am not huingry at all. But...my weight loss seems to have really slowed and instead of losing 2-3 pounds a week...I am only losing like 1-2 every other week. Plus I have been able to eat bread (half a grilled cheese the other day) and other stuff that I think would have given me a problem a couple month's ago. Sounds like I need a fill right?

Anyway...I was wondering how agressive I can expect her to be with my second fill...could I end up with only .1 or .2 of a cc? I only have 1.2 to begin with...will .2 more make much of a difference?

Since she doesn't do it with the flouro...will she be able to tell if there are any problems like a slippage or anything?

Any advice from those of you who have had it done both ways would be really appreciated! Thank you so much!

:)

I think one of the major signs & symptoms of slippage is nausea & vomiting. She probably wouldn't check for slippage, if she normally doesn't use fluoro, unless you had some signs & symptoms. As to the fill amount, It's different for everyone. 0.1 cc may feel the same as 1.0 cc to two different people. I would ask to stay for a little while & drink some Water. If you can't feel any difference, then ask for a little more fill. She may do it. She may not. Sometime's peoples fills don't kick in for sometime later. I had my last fill months ago. I had restriction, but I didn't think it was enough & then wham! 2 months ago it just seemed to kick in. & I didn't have any restriction until I got up to 2.5 ccin a 4 cc band. So I guess what I'm trying to say is, do what you feel comfortable with. There are no rules written in stone where fills are concerned. Good luck!!

Hi Apryl!

I was going to post the very same question!! You sound just like me!! I had my first fill 3 1/2 months ago by Dr. Martinez. I am scheduled to have a fill done by a lady here in my town & she doesn't use Flouro & I'm a little concerned. I was losing pretty good back then. Now my weight loss has started to slow down. I too can eat tortillas, bread & stuff I wasn't able to eat before. However, somedays I can hardly eat 5 bites of a salad. I am so not sure if a fill is what I need. I would hate to be overfilled & go through the terrible pain I've heard about. I can't wait to see more posts on this topic!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
