aromanek 13 Posted February 8, 2011 I am a type II diabetic and I go for my final nutritionist meeting on Feb. 10. I havesome concerns as to what my preop diet will consist of. I am concerned that I will not get enough carbs and I will be experiencing a lot of blood sugar lows. I have brought up my concerns to my nutritionist at each meeting, but she just tells me we will just play it by ear. I am not sure how comfortable I am with that. I was wondering if anyone else experienced this issue during their preop diet. My sister got her band last Feb. with the same doctor I am going with and she was on the same preop diet I am supposedly being placed on, but she wasn't diabetic. Looking at everything she had, shakes, Soups, broths etc... I am pretty sure that it will not be enough carbs to offset my current medications.
suzahhn 19 Posted February 8, 2011 You need to see your Endocrinologist and they will adjust your rates. I am a type 1 on a pump and I dropped my rates during pre op because I was indeed getting lots of lows initially. I had to eat a couple times and I let my surgeon and nutritionist know and everything turned out great. I know it's scary, but even when I was 2 days post op, I was able to drink some juice when my sugar level dropped a little. My endo had/has me running high (150-200) for now.
