helloo everyone!

i'm about 3 and a half weeks post op (yay!) and am now eating soft foods! except ive noticed a lot lately that my stomach gurgles quite a bit and i've been a bit gassy! i dont know if any one else has had this issue, but its quite embarassing in public! can anyone relate here? also, my bowel movements (not to be gross) havent exactly been the same, which is to be expected...wondering generally when this will return to normal!

also, i was wondering about scarring. how has everyones scars healed, and how long did it take? and what if anything did you put on them once they were healed to reduce to visibility of them? loving the band so far! thanks :)

I hate to tell you this but my stomach still makes crazy gurgling noices all time and I am 8 months post op. Some days are louder than others but I have come to grips with the fact that my tummy is just gonna be gurgly. Gas... is the same way... some days are explosive and others are not as bad but since surgery... I am just gassy. It took several months to get back to normal in the bathroom. Even now after I have a fill and have to go on liquids... it takes a week or so to get back on track. You are not alone and I think all of the things you have mentioned are normal after lapband surgery. Hang in there... it gets better. Finally, my scars took a few weeks to heal and are not bad at all... still a little pink but I think that will fade in time. With all of that said... I wouldn't change a thing and I love my band as I have lost 50 pounds and 4 pant sizes. Not to mention... I feel great, have more energy and am healthier than I have been in years!

Yep, all of that is normal. I still don't have regular bowel movements (I'm about 5 weeks post-op). I don't know your nationality; I'm Black and my scars are healed but darker than the rest of my skin. I didn't think my port scar was ever going to look normal, but I'm sure the line will fade and look great later. I bought Vitamin E and put it on my scars daily (be sure to wait until they're closed). I think it took 3 -4 weeks for them to heal.

Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
