2 weeks post-op

Recommended Posts

Wednesday will be 2 weeks since surgery. I am getting frustrated already. I do not feel any different. I am able to eat anything and everything without getting sick. I do feel full, but am able to eat almost as much as I did before surgery. Can't get adjusted for 2 more weeks. Did anyone else have this same experience?

Oh yes- you are deffinatley not alone. It's known as "bandster hell", the time inbetween surgery and when you get "restriction" (full for about 4 hours after a small meal). Be aware it may take several fills- took me 3. Hang in there, it does get better. For now, I would focus on eating the right foods (low carb. low fat, high protien) even if your portions are larger than they will be once you have restriction. Congrats on your surgery, you took a huge step towards getting healthy.

Thank you very much for the advise. It doesn't help that I am a HUGE Steelers fan, and that game last night threw me into a binge. I know that sounds silly, but it did. Not to mention that I had my son home for 3 days from the military and had to tell him goodbye AGAIN! Things like this set me off and I have a hard time recovering from it. I am going to start support groups next week. It is so nice to have other members to talk with, THANK YOU AGAIN!!

I am two weeks post ops as of tomorrow Tuesday.. i am not really having issues with being hungry. I have noticed a change in the amount of food i am taking in. You need to think about the type of foods that you are eating when you are eating. Also, remember not to drink when eating that makes things go through quicker.

Hey Kena,

Thursday will be my 2 week post-op and I feel your pain. I know that I'm suppose to eat mushies, but I have messed up a couple of times with chicken and popcorn. I just re-focused and jumped back on the horse again. It has been difficult because I still have the same food cravings as before, but we have come too far to turn back. Lets take it one day at a time. Today, lets start with a clean slate and regain that determination we had when we started this journey. We can do it!

I have been on solid foods since day 5 after surgery. My stomach growls constantly. I can take in as much food now as I did before surgery. My doc told me not to overeat that I would get sick. Well that is totally not the case with me. I am fighting the stomach growls, trying to keep myself busy. I just don't understand why I don't feel ANY restriction at all. I am eating a lot of Protein and drinking the Protein Shakes. I just can't wait to get this thing tightened, LOL. Thank you all for the encouragement, I really needed it today. I am staying optimistic, but so far, pretty disappointed with the outcome, SIGH.

I found myself getting very disappointed but I had to regroup because for most of my life I've felt like the one always left behind. When many of my co-workers began loosing significant amounts of weight (some by surgery, some by other means) I felt as if nothing would work for me. But I'm not going to give up. I let someone cut into my body for the sake of weight lose and I know I'm not going any further than I am right now. This is it!! And I'm going to make this thing work. I get so hungry so often but I can't eat a lot because I do feel restricted. They say the restriction after surgery probably comes from swelling around the band. Try to go back to soft foods. Solids are no good for us now. Try to eat things that stick to the ribs, like oatmeal or cream of wheat. eggs and mushy tuna salad using fat free mayo for lunch. I like to eat, so I have to be creative with food. I drink lots of Chrystal Light and sugar free hot cocoa. It seems we have the same problems going on.

Thank you very much for the advice BASIMAH. I am hoping once I get back to work next week I will do better. I am going stir crazy home in this gloomy weather. I am used to working at least 50 hours a week, so this is killing me. I am going to take your advice and go back to mushy foods. I am still optimistic that once I get tightened to the right restriction, I will do much better. :)

I am 2 weeks on Thursday and feel the same way also. I did fine the 1st week. Now I am not feeling full or satsified. I am eating less but I want something else. I am better at work than home. I know I should be on liquids to mushy but that is just not satsifing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
