Does your port get in the way of daily activities?

Recommended Posts

I am two weeks post-op today. My port is in the front of my belly. Slightly left of my belly button. I didn't know my doc was going to put it there; thought it was going more on my side. And to be honest, I'm not too happy about it. Well, the port gets in the way of me leaning forward, bending down to pick things off the floor or to clean and will jab me on the inside. It can be very painful at times. I'm now having to find other ways of bending down so that I don't get hurt. I mentioned to my doc during my appt. with him a week after surgery that the port jabs me when I lean forward or bend down. He told me that I'm still having to adjust and didn't see any cause for concern.

So has anyone else experienced this and did it get better?

It gets better. I'm about 15 months postop and I rarely notice it anymore.

You are still very much in recovery. Mine is more toward the side and at 2 weeks I was still getting jabbed when I stood up or bent over. Give it another 3 weeks.

It does get better, but mine does hurt some still especially if I turn or twist a certain way.

Same thing for me. It took about a month and now I can bend and twist and feel nothing. Don't worry it will get better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
