Just wondering ... what exactly do they do at the pre op appointment? Mine is the day before surgery and they told me it would only be an half an hour to 45 min.

THey just weigh you...give you instructions about your post-op diet and what you should do if certain problems arise...how do take care of the staples, etc... You'll talk to your Dr. and he'll go over the whole thing about surgery day..what exactly is gonna happen..at that time you can ask him any questions you have. If you think you're gonna have questions, write them down so you can take them with you so you don't forget to ask something. Then you should prolly be meeting with the nutritionist so you guys can go over your post op diet and ask her any questions you have.

That's about it!! Good luck hon!!:D

Thanks for the info. I'm planning on meeting with the nutritionist after surgery since I won't be eating much for a bit after anyway...and they are in a different office. Getting nervous!

Hi,

Just had my pre op today. It went well. I had a little index card of questions and the surgeon was great about answering each one.

It makes you realize how close you are now. Everyone wishing you well in the waitng room, etc.

Thanks for the info. I'm planning on meeting with the nutritionist after surgery since I won't be eating much for a bit after anyway...and they are in a different office. Getting nervous!

I just picked up my Optifast today. I'm starting to freak out a little bit. Keep worrying about blood pressure. Keep telling myself I will be fine. Yikes it is so close! Good luck to you just plain tired.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
