Why am I so tired when I wake up in the morning?

Recommended Posts

I'm two weeks pos op, and I wake up feeling tired. I'm just wondering why, and could it be from lack of nutrition? How can I fix this? I have lost five pounds since the surgery! :-)

residual anesthesia and general toll on the body from surgery. Plus caloric changes. This will pass. Make sure you have your Protein shakes/greek yogurt and Vitamins as soon as you are allowed :)

YOU PROBABLY NEED MORE Protein. IT GIVES YOU ENERGY. ALSO, DO YOU HAVE sleep APNEA? EVER HAD A sleep STUDY? SLEEP APNEA MAKES YOU VERY TIRED, BECAUSE YOU ARE WAKING UP ALL THRU THE NIGHT BECAUSE YOU STOP BREATHING.

ALSO, MAKE SURE YOUR GETTING YOUR Vitamins IN.

You may be having night time reflux due to the band being placed and tight. It is not unusual to have some reflux at first. My doc told me it can be a cause of poor sleep and insomnia post-op. My suggestion, in addition to the good ideas the other members had, is to elevated the head of your bed at night. Use pillows or elevate the foot with a large book or brick under the feet at the head of the bed. I have had this when my band was too tight and it was really a pain. I do think you should be checked for sleep apnea, particularly if you are on pain medications since they can make apnea worse. Just think, as the weight comes off you will find you sleep so much better!

How is your exercise? I know it is harder to get moving when you feel exhausted, but it will help. It is all about changing habits and adding exercise is going to be one of the habits you have to get into.

I walk at the mall every other day for an hour, I also dance with the dance central game for the xbox 360. It counts my calories burned. Its a lot of fun.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
