I have tried sooo many diets and think I'm ready to resort to WLS. I haven't even told my husband that I scheduled an appointment for a lap band consult on 2/8/11. I also scheduled my psych visit that morning. The insurance specialist told me I would need to have a sleep study done. I feel sooo overwhelmed with the feeling that my insurance will not pay for this. I do have lap band benefits, but my BMI is 36. I know that if I continue without surgery my weight will continue to increase. I have BCBS insurance. Has anyone had surgery with a BMI of 36...did insurance cover?...were you self pay? I am curious to know how much the procedure will cost if I decide to go the self pay route.

Any info will be appreciated. Everyone is such an inspiration on here.:D

I have BCBS and it is being paid IN FULL!! I still can't believe it to be honest. My BMI is 39 with no underlying conditions. A dear friend of mine had the surgery last year (not sure of her insurance carrier) and her BMI was 36 (with no underlying conditions) and was also covered by insurance.

Good luck!! :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
