I was told today that I have a diagnosis of sleep apnea. I was shocked a little to hear this. As a nurse I deal with this issue with my patients all the time. But to have the diagnosis myself upsets me a little. The good thing is, is that if I wasn't getting these pre-operative testings done, I would have never known. I just have to get my psyche eval completed and attend a support group; so I'm almost there.

That is how I found out was pre-op testing. Turns out I am moderate to severe and stop breathing 15 times and hour. I am on the CPAP machine and struggle using it. Thanks to support from other on this site I have gone back to using my machine.

I also was told I have diverticulm & a sliding hiatus hernia with pre-op testing. I was so scared they would reject me from having the band. As in Canada this is a new surgery and we have strict medical guidlines.

Good luck!

I found out I have sleep apena too. Went to the clinic last night and was told mine was moderate. I will get a CPAP machine in a couple of days. I was lucky ...the mask didn't bother me too much last night. I agree with you, without the pre-oper testing, I would have never known.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
