Surgery After LapBand

Recommended Posts

I broke my arm Jan 20 and had surgery the 21st to put in a steel plate and twelve screws. I have taken generic percocet and lortab, no problems swallowing them at all. Told the emergency room and my surgeon that I have a lapband. My question is does anyone know if these drugs will bother my band? I know it is kind of late to be asking that now, but today is the first day I can actually type.

This morning I have a sore muscle kind of feeling in the band area. My wrists are starting to hurt too, my husband thinks all of this is coming to my attention because I am taking much less pain medication and my arm is not bothering me as much so other parts of my body are starting to show their signs from the fall. It has been a week and a half, can I still have aches and pains from then.

I'm going for an adjustment in two days so I will of course discuss it with them when I get there. Just wanted to know what you all thought.

I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled 1 week after getting my band - I was fine with the meds and obviouslly with the liquid diet, LOL

Call your doc when in doubt, but my guess is that you're a-ok!

those meds are tylenol based... not ibuprofin... so should be just fine. Very important to not take any additional tylenol while on those pain killers though...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
