Hello all. I too am a newbie! I was banded on 12-1-05 and i have lost 15 pounds. I live in Grand Blanc, Michigan and had my surgery at the Barix Clinic in Ypsilanti, Michigan. My surgeon was Dr. Jon Schram and he and everyone at the clinic were and are wonderful. I go for my first fill on January 10. I am married and have 2 boys ages 17 and 8. I have 3 cats. I am a social worker and manage two Alzheimer's Units at an assisted living community in Flint. I am very glad to have found this site and feel like everyone here is well aware of what we are all going through. Thank you all for the words of wisdom I have already read and I look forward to many more.

Hi Criss, how are things in the frozen north. We've been getting highs in the 70's down here in Texas. I think I'll go for a motorcycle ride. How about you, Betty?

Hi Neighbor!

I love on the south side of Flint! About a mile or so from your town! I am not banded yet, still checking out the band and all....

I am wondering, why did you go with Barix Clinic in Ypsi and not Hurley? Just wondering!

WELCOME and GOOD LUCK!

I was banded Jan-18-2005 just 5 days after having a very bad car wreck that left we laid up for about 16 weeks'. I lost 28 pounds my first 5 days. (I got the flu and could not eat any thing at all). I was 460 pounds at the start and I now am at 382 I was down to 370 but gained 12 over the last 8 weeks after having some Fluid out of the band. Well it is goin back in this week I diid best with it very tight almost to tight. I have to get 90 more pounds off by this July is my goal . I am going to start working out as long as My back will let me. I look foward to taking to some of you. I have tried to do this by my self and it is not working I would like to start going to a local group but need to find a good one. My Docter was Steve Maley In Overland Park Kansas. He is a great guy and we have become freinds. Thanks for your time Bill.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
