Changing Goal Weight????

Recommended Posts

Has anyone out there changed their Goal Weight from what they originally intended? I orignally had planned to get to around 195, but from the beginning I told myself not to concentrate on a number, but more on how I felt overall. Pre-band, If I was at the weight I am now I would be perfectly content. However I know I should drop another 20 lbs or so. So I guess the big question is, after another 20lbs, would I be selling myself short if I maintained there?

I really don't have an answer for you, but wanted to tell you that I've been pondering that for myself. Do I keep losing until I reach my original, stop here, lose half of the difference, etc...

I did change my original many months ago from 165 to 185. Right now I'm 209 (FYI - I set my ticker for mini goals).

Back to my point, I don't have an answer for you just like no one has the answer for me - look inside, pray, meditate, write it out - whatever you do and I hope you find your answer. I hope I can find mine as well.

I would like to find peace with my body - as much as I can.

Good Luck

Rebecca

I changed my goal weight in that I started focusing on body fat percentage as opposed to weight. So instead of a weight, I am focused on getting down to 22% body fat which is a healthy amount for females my age. I have a lot more lean mass than most women my age and height (I have 140 pounds of lean mass and I'm not losing any...in fact I've gain 1/2 a pound of lean mass in the past few months...for comparison, most women my age and height have 110ish pounds of lean mass). Initially I was hoping to get down to 130 pounds, but if I end up with 130 pounds of lean mass, obviously 130 pounds total is not realistic (Im sure I dont need to explain but that would be 0% body fat). So I'm aiming for 22% body fat percentage and when I get there, I'll reassess how I fell and what I want my next goal to be.

I set my goal weight at the high end of normal BMI. For me, at 5'2, that means 134 pounds. I figure anything above that I would still be overweight.

Our goal weights are all dfferent because we have a different 'goal' in the end. Some of us want a low bmi, certain fat percent, certain amount lost etc. If you are happy at a certain weight and your doc is saticfied with what you want as your goal weight I yhink that is fine. You might down the line your goal weight might change again.

My goal has always been 130 but I could never get past 150lbs so I have always had negative feelings towards 150lbs. However i am there now and was almost happy with my body so Imoved my goal weight to 140 and now 145. I might never get to 145 so if not 150 is ok but the highest i ever want to be.

I'm a go all the way kinda girl, lol. I wouldnt stop there.

Interestingly, althugh my goal was lowish anyway, I did lose a fair bit of unintended weight due to cancer treatment and got right down to the very very bottom of my healthy weight range. I always "secretly" wanted to get there anyway. Truth be told, its too skinny for me and I look better a little heavier. I'm actually glad this happened because its cured my obsession with being as light as possible. I'm no happier, healthier, whatever than I was six kilograms heavier. I'm gradually gaining again, but that's really really hard to allow to happen, although I dont want to be too light, gaining weight is not easy for someone who's been obese, as I'm sure everyone would understand. Anyhow, the point is, you're never going to know how you'll feel at a certain weight unless you try it on for size!

I certainly wouldnt aim for a weight that's above a BMI of 25, but again, that's probably just me, and the fact that I've never actually been morbidly obese (BMI of 36 when banded) makes that more doable and imaginable to me.

my first goal weight is the high end of normal on the BMI chart. i'm only 2 pounds away and i know i'll get there soon!

but i don't think i'll be satisfied being at the high end. i'm going to work toward being in the middle of the normal range that way if i gain or lose 2 pounds here or there it won't make me underweight or overweight!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
