Unsuccesful

Recommended Posts

I was banded in April 2010 and I don't fee the tightness that everyone talks about. I have only lost 20 pounds and I am beginning to gain the weight back.

The doctor gave me the realize band and I was wondering if others are feeling having a similar problem. (not enough tighness). I don't fill full, I do eat sweets and I know I shouldn't.

I have had 6 fills and I am thinking I made a mistake! Any suggestions?

Even though you have had 6 fills doesn't mean you have reached that magic restriction level that your body may need. You should be measureing your 4 oz Protein, 4 oz veggies eating that and stopping....then if you are hungry before 3-4 hrs have passed you do not have proper adjustment in your band...at least that is what my doctor says.

I would not say that a 20 pound loss is unsuccessful. That is really good...just keep at it, remember that each time you lose some weight you are also losing fat around your stomach where the band sits and you WILL need those adjustments to keep it working to it's greatest potential.

I have heard of people not going back to their surgeon because they are embarrassed that they have not lost enough ...please don't feel that way. You reached out for help because you need help, so use the help, get the additional adjustments...you will get there. And once you are properly adjusted it will hopefully be easier to make the healthy choices again.

Best of luck to you!

Whats your band size and fill size? I had the SAG band which is an earlier version of realize and I need a fill of atleast 10cc before i had restriction. I also had to push myself at the gym to lose weight. It isnt easy but you can do this!

I was banded on 8/18/10 - I was still able to eat regular. I didnt think it was working so I had a fill - originally didnt feel anything really and with the holidays, eating sweets, I gained. It was so frustrating! So I finally decided to cut the sweets and carbs, and I am eating some good carbs, and I feel fuller now when I eat.

You have to change your way of eating and if you must, cheat here and there, not all the time. If you fall, you get back up and continue to go. Its ok.

I was told today by Dr. Posner that the good foods will stay in there and last longer, that the bad things like sweets and carbs go through the band faster - therefore feeling less full. Cut the sweets and and try other sweet things like grapes, or sugarfree Jello.

Hope this helps!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
