Constant upper chest/back discomfort

Recommended Posts

Hello I was banded on Monday January 24 and the healing process is going well. One problem is I seem to have this constant discomfort to my chest and back...Not terrible pain just a discomfort, could this mean I still have alot of restriction? I had a hard time the first few days even with Water but I am able to drink fluids still struggling with taking all Clear Liquids, don't know if I am just plan sick of them. I am concerned that when I reach my soft/puree stage on Monday I won't be able to handle it...any suggestions. thanks Jackie

I don't have chest discomfort, but the back discomfort is definitely there. I was banded the 25th. Honestly I don't think that has much to do with restriction I believe it to be a gas pain. I don't think that you would be able to feel back discomfort from restriction at all times of the day even when you're not drinking or eating anything. I think you might just be sick of the clear liquids as well. I know I was pre-op haha. When you get into your mushy/puree phase start out light. Do cream of Soups like cream of mushroom blended. Tomato Soup would be good too. Straight out from surgery I was able to have a full-liquid diet. So I am currently having the cream of soups, Tomato Soup, grits, broth etc. I am tolerating them fine. In 3 weeks...(more like 2 now) I will be on a mushy foods diet. =) I cant wait to have some mashed potatoes!!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
