What do you do to exercise?

Recommended Posts

Banded 12/14 and currently at about 230. I am going to Zumba and some cardio. I took a weight class today and my whole body hurts. just curious what others who have seen results did at the beginning for exercise? How long before you could really see a difference?

I do a 30 minute weight circuit at the gym 2-3 times a week, I walk 2-3 times a week and I ride my exercycle when I want to add something else in. I also use my air climber and do exercise dvd's sometimes.

about a month after I was banded I started taking body pump and body combat classes at the gym.. they are each an hour long ..pump is weights and combat is cardio. I went 3x a week. I started seeing results in my body in about 2 mnths..my legs and arms felt tighter and I could really feel the muscle in my thighs, i also started noticing a little difinition in my upper arms.

Hang in there with the Body Pump, it does get easier. The current release is pretty intense. If you're just starting working with weights, make sure you're not attempting too much weight too fast. Also the trainers at my gym say not to do weights more often than every other day. UNLESS you are only doing one part of the body one day and another the next. With BP you're doing the whole body, so you need at least a day off between classes.

If you're having muscle cramps, make sure you're getting plenty of Water and Calcium. I try to drink a quart of Powerade ZERO as well as my 2 quarts of Water a day when I'm pumping. If it's just soreness, keep going to class and talk to the instructor. They may have some suggestions.

As to what I do? I started after surgery by only walking my dog. Started with small distances and worked up to walking 2 miles a day. Rains came, my dog hates walking in the rain.. so I went to a gym to use their treadmill. Luckily this gym was very flexible on membership.. can pay by day, week, month, whatever works for you. I eventually got brave enough to try some classes.

Now, almost 2 years from banding, I take: Yoga/Pilates (combined class); Body Pump, RPM (similar to SPIN.. stationary bike class to music), Step (similar to Body Combat, but not a Les Mills product), Zumba and am currently doing a 11 week boot camp on top of my regular workouts. When I'm not doing boot camp, I often hire a trainer for once a week workouts.

I'm still over 200 in weight, but I don't look it because I'm getting toned while losing. I can't lift as much weight as some others due to joint issues, I also can't do all of the moves in Zumba.. again.. joint issues. I do what I can and reap the rewards. :)

My treadmill crashed pretty soon after I had the surgery so I'm using the Wii to exercise since I don't want to go to a gym. I look forward to my exercise using the Wii. I use the Wii Fit Plus, and then alternate using Just Dance 2 and Gold's Gym Cardio. My favorites are the Wii Fit Plus and the Just Dance 2.

I walk around my neighborhood, or I like to take hikes in the canyons or i do about 45 minutes on the treadmill or exercise bike.

I need to start doing some weights! And try some classes.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
