saraannie 7 Posted January 29, 2011 Well, I was doing so well. but Thursday I began experiencing a dull pain on my left side, I guess it could be gas, but I am 8 days post op. Is gas still possible? The pain gets worse after I eat or drink anything, (mostly drinking, still on liquids). I have an appt on next Thursday. Should I wait or call Monday if it doesn't get better? Could it be an adverse reaction to the band, or am I just worrying for no reason? any advice would be helpful....thanks bunches!!

It wasn't constant at that point. It just showed up at random. Always call your dr. if you feel there is an issue. I understand the worrying about every little pain. I was just banded this past October, but I still focus on any little pain in the band area. I have been good at every dr. appointment so I guess it's just some residual soreness. Please be sure to call your surgeon if you aren't sure.

I was banded 10 days ago, and I still have shoulder gas pain. I find that if I take some of the vocotin they gave me when the pain just starts, it helps much more so that waiting for the full blown pain (and then trying to manage it) The pain gets less and less every day though. Huggles1951 1 Posted January 29, 2011 I was banded Jan 10th. I had pain in the left side near where my port was at. The port is anchored to your abdominal muscle. I guess it's to be expected that the whole area would be sore as they were rooting around in there... lol. For the first week after surgery it hurt if I moved the wrong way or getting in or out of a chair etc. I also had the pain up on my left shoulder area from the gas and air they fill your abdomen with. Also the upper left pressure if I tried to eat too much. For the gas I'd suggest walking around and gas x and for the lower left pain I'd suggest you use your pain meds before it gets too bad. If you have a fever or the pain keeps getting worse call your Dr right away. You should probably call anyway just to ease your mind.. Good luck.
Acadia 20 Posted January 29, 2011 You may get some very extreme gas pains. Laying down will help. Using a hot pack or heating pad/bottle will help. It's normal. But if you have trouble breathing go to the ER or call your Dr. Don't risk it.
