Proactive fills = steady/better wgt loss???

Recommended Posts

I will have the LB surgery next week. It seems to me that the more you stay on top of having a good fill - the less you will "suffer" having to "diet". This is where I have always failed in the past - having to stop eating on my own.

The reason I want the band is so that I will not be able to eat past what I really need.

Someone said that her doctor told her - Well don't eat the 2nd cup of food - when she said she felt she was overeating. Isn't the purpose of the band to keep us from being able to eat the "2nd cup" or whatever it is?

Dieting in the conventional sense (feeling deprived) seems like a waste of the band - as it is supposed to be used.

I agree somewhat, but the band is still just a tool. You still have to make the right choices of what you are eating. I have had 3 fills and am about to have a 4th, but I have never stopped watching my calorie fat intake. I just need that structure to ensure I stay ontrack...if i just 'wing' it with my band...I tend to make bad food decisions...but that is just me.

You are a perfect example of what I'm talking about. 60 lbs since 10/05 and you've had 3 fills. You are staying on top of it - yes - using the band to it's fullest potential.

I find people like you to be an inspiration.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
