POST SURGERY DIET

I just had my lapband surgery on tuesday. I'M PSYCHED!! But I would like to be connected with others in my boat.

The surgeon I went thru is pretty much the one and only for miles around, which means he's uber busy and I hate to bother him if I can find out another way.

What is the significance behind the "POST SURGERY MEAL PLAN"?

Week 1: Clear liquids

Week 2: FULL LIQUID/PUREED

Week 3: DENTAL SOFT

Week 4: GI SOFT

Week 5: GI SOFT

Week 6-13: REGULAR

I guess my biggest thing is that I feel ready to start introducing that full liquid diet but I still have 2 days til I am "allowed" to start that. Now yes I'm feel hungry for real food but thats not why I feel ready to start the next step. I feel ready because I'm feeling bored. I'm feeling like" yea yea yea I've done that part. lets move on..." Is there a real reason for the rigidness to this "diet plan" ? Or is it more just a guideline to help you take it slow?

Your stomach has been through considerable trauma. Yes, these rules are for a reason. Your stomach should not be churning during this phase. It needs to do as little moving as possible. Yes liquids esp. Clears suck. I asked to move from full liquids to mushies two days earlier and the nurse said "Absolutely NOT" These rules are for a reason. It's 48 hours you can make it.

My doctors let me move on to eggs early but I did not tolerate them well at all. They also let me move on to the Protein shakes early which I tolerated much better. Take it slow and be patient. The first 2 weeks of this part are the toughest. After that it gets better and better

My surgeon was a little different I had Clear Liquids from when I went home from the hospital until my first pre-op visit 2 days later. Then it was full liquids for 2 weeks from surgery date. Then pureed food for 1 week then soft foods and after a couple of weeks I was allowed to add raw fruits and veges and some carbs. The liquid part is the hardest, you will get through this, just remember the small sacrifice now is worth the results later!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
