Hi! I am a 58 yr old female, 5'1" with a starting weight of 237. I got my lap band on 1/25 here in NY at the NYU hospital. I am doing well. No nausea. Some problems with gases. I'm sure it's expected. Any hints on how to get them moving and any interesting food choices to make the "thin" liquid phase more interesting. Thanks for the support!

I had surgery the 25th as well. This morning I was finally hungry and looked in my binder given to me by my doc to see what I could have that sounded good. It said oatmeal as long as it was runny and blended so I sent my husband after some quaker oat maple brown sugar oatmeal. It was wonderful just make it watery with some milk. I added one sweetner and some no calorie spray butter and a scoop of unflavored Protein powder... YUMMY!!!!!!!! best meal yet!

I also had my surgery on the 25th, and like rachel this is the first day i have been hungery. My gas pain has been getting better everyday, they told me to put a heating pad on my back and that helped a little. I ate cream of wheat today with no calorie sweetner, man it was good.

I was in absolute agony on day 2 after the surgery (I am now 10-days post-op) when the gasses where passing through. I tried absolutely everything from walking around to breathing heavy to even sitting on top of my washing machine. Finally after 15 hours of misery (I could have set my clock to the pain; it was 15-20 Seconds of sheer torture in my belly followed by 45 seconds of no pain...Rinse, repeat for 15 hours). I passed out from the pain twice. I finally tried laying down on my right side and EVERYTHING came out in 3 or 4 looooooooooong farts and I was instantly relieved and out of pain. Hopefully this will help you.

BTW I am still VERY gassy, but I was also very gassy pre-surgery

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
