One Year After Lap Band Surgery

Recommended Posts

Its been a year since I had the surgery. Dr. Derek Weiss performed my surgery and it went without a hitch. I lost 35 pounds right off the bat and was delighted. However the weight loss has stopped more or less. I lose 5, gain 5 - I've had 4 fills since January, 2010 and currently only have 5 in the band. I had an Upper GI run this morning to be sure everything was in place and all is good. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced not losing and if so what did you do to correct it. I go to a gym and I walk my dogs everyday so I am active.

Do you track everything you eat? Are you getting enough Protein? Water? How intense if your exercise? I have never been at a long stall; the longest was almost 2 weeks and I ate more/upped my exercise and my weightloss hasn't stopped since.

I think you answered my question - I don't eat enough because I am afraid I'll over eat, I do drink liquids, excerise is average-just started with my routine...and I don't track everything I eat but I started doing that today. Do you continue to drink Protein Drinks - at least 1 a day?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
