(i hope that makes since. irratation & burning.) What suggestions do you have? I am flooding my body with Water and i feel like i am going to float away. reverie 49 Posted January 28, 2011 How much Protein are you getting overall food wise? I'd say eat a lot of Beans, fish, chicken, turkey, etc. Try to find some high Protein foods. Maybe this list will help you http://commonsensehealth.com/Diet-and-Nutrition/List_of_High_Protein_Foods.shtml.
Acadia 20 Posted January 29, 2011 At four weeks post you may not be able to consume enough solid Protein (meat Protein contributes to kidney stones - vegetable and soy Proteins don't) so either supplement with whey shakes or eat things like oatmeal (awesome source of protein). You truly do not need 60+ grams of protein per day unless you're still healing (you're at the end of that) or working out heavily (heavy weights - 5-8 reps before failure). You're safe to drop down to 20-30 grams a day for most of the weeks, which you should be able to get easily through the food you eat. Keep track of what you're eating in something like The Daily Plate as it will calculate protein even in fruits and vegetables. Stick with complex carbs with protein (like oatmeal, fruits, vegetables, Beans, legumes) and avoid meat Proteins as they will exacerbate the issue. Also - if you're taking Vitamin C or Calcium, back off for a bit. They too cause kidney stones.
sharcorb 0 Posted January 30, 2011 I'm a year out and still drink the Protein Drinks most days. I lost alot of hair about 6 months ago, and decided a small Protein Drink (usually half of the serving size Isopure) would be easy to get down and I wouldn't have to sweat it every day. I did start to develop a kidney stone, and heard that apple cider vinegar would help with that. I added some to apple juice for a week or so and it cleared up. Good luck, Sharon
karewpah 173 Posted January 30, 2011 Acadia... Our nutritionists and surgeons give us the 60-80gm of Protein a day to protect our muscle mass. You're information is not accurate and you risk truly misleading someone. To the original poster... Try the Greek yogurt instead of Protein Powder, how about chili homemade with lean ground turkey and topped with lowfat ricotta cheese. Of course I highly recommend this only as a stop gap until you speak with your nutritionist. Keep your Protein at a minimum of 60 gms as was recommended to you, else you risk compromising your metabolism by losing lean muscle mass. Get you Water up to about 96 ozs and that should help flush things out for you. I hope you are feeling better soon.
