Question about getting started

Recommended Posts

I want to have the lap band done and have mentioned it to my doctor and he thinks that it is a good idea. Now what is the next step to me possibly getting it through my insurance?

Do I contact a surgeon in my area who will do it or will my doctor do that? I'm confused

How did you you guys get started?

I would 1. find out if you have coverage w/your insurance first, if so then find a surgeon in the network

2. contact the surgeon, they will set you up with a seminar then a consult and will go over all your financial deets at that time :)

My insurance does cover the lap band. I have United Healthcare Choice Plus. How do I find someone in my network?

Most doctors should take it, afterall UHC is a major carrier. If you have a surgeon in mind, just give em a call and make sure they take your insurance before you commit to anything :)

If you have an HMO your primary care doctor will need to give you a referral. If you are PPO find a surgeon and see if they are in your network. My opinion is to find a doctor that does not have a "program fee". This is a extra profit fee that you pay out of pocket to the doctor above and beyond what they can bill your insurance. I think those fees should be illegal.

I'd call your insurance company and ask. They'll tell you what your coverage is! :) I am currently in the process of getting started as well! I found a bariatrics office and had a consultation with the doctor. He gave me a check list to complete before I can get a surgery date. The checklist includes: Labwork from my primary doctor, an upper endoscopy, a nutritional consultation, and a psyche evaulation. Good luck doll!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
