After Being Denied by Insurance how long before they review it again?

Recommended Posts

I got the letter today saying I was denied for lap band surgery by BCBSAL: the reason was I did not have 5 years worth of recorded weight (I didnt have insurance during all 5 years) but I did submit photos with it as they requested. They also said I did not have 6 months of supervised weight loss which i just completed in January?? After you are denied how long does it typlically take for it to be reviewed again??

When was all of your info for you 6months visit submitted? That may be something that the surgeons office goofed up on...

I understand not having insurance all 5yrs, but did you go see the doctor at all?

Good luck!

Yea, I'm thinking even though you didn't have insurance for those years your weight should be recorded somewhere? Did you ever join a gym or weight watchers during that time and they have your weight on file?

The lady at the DR office said she called them and the insurance company has now "found" my 6 mths of supervised diet. Now all they need is proof of my weight in those 5 yrs. Out of 5 yrs I went to the DR twice once back in 2006 and once in the beginning of 2010. I did not do Weight Watcher or anything in the years in between. Luckily they are now saying I can submit photos and they will go from there.

SO everyone please say a little prayer for me!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
