A little discouraged.

So I have my surgery scheduled for February 7th, however, they wanted me to lose 30 pounds during the 4 week pre-op to get my BMI down. I am currently on week 3, and up until this week I have been doing wonderfully. I lost 20 pounds. This week I have lost nothing so far. I just do not want to have to go through additional weeks of this liquid diet. I am following everything to a tee. Anyone have any suggestions?

20 pounds is FANTASTIC!!! Congratulations!

My suggestion is to stay away from the scale....put it in the closet and just concentrate on one day at a time until your surgery.

Keep moving forward and never look back. You can do it! You are worth it!

Best wished to you....may you be pleasantly surprised when you weigh in the morning of your surgery.

How much are you exercising and what kind of exercise?? Your body might be building muscle I would say keep in contact with your doc or keep a food and exercise journal that you can show them, and maybe they will still give you the surgery if your a few pounds shy.

Good luck, we share a surgery date, so I'm rooting for you

I havent done any exercise the past two weeks, but this week I started walking 30 minutes each day. I am hoping that helps take the last 10 pounds off.

Yay for Feb 7th! It's coming soon.

30 pounds in 4 weeks is alot! That's 4.5 lb per week which even on an all liquid diet would be hard. So congrats on your 20 lb achievement. It could be that you've hit a plateau which does'nt shock me after 20 pounds lost. Will you be going to a liquid only diet presurgery? I would talk to you doctor about your current loss and see if they will go ahead even if you don't lose 30. Again, I think 30lb in a month is excessive and not very healthy. I was told to lose 34 in 3 months which I did. But that's 3 times as long!

getting as much weight off before your surgery is helpful and 20 pounds is a great start! it sounds like you'll do great after surgery! i agree... stay away from the scale for now. your surgeon won't turn you away for not making the 30 pounds!

Thats very reassuring coming from you seeing as how I will be banded by Dr. Curry as well. They told me if I followed the 4 week medifast I would lose 40 lbs no problem. I thought that was alot as well, but I obviously dont know much about nutrition or I wouldnt be in this situation. I just dont want to get there and have them tell me they cant band me.

40 pounds in a month is unreasonable and I don't care what kind of diet you're on. I was on a 500 calorie Optifast diet and I lost *nothing* in a month. On a 1200 calorie diet I only lose 1 lb a week. When I complained to the doctor, he said I just have a very efficient metabolism...most likely as a result of years of dieting.

It's probably too late for you to do something about it, but for others, I'd recommend interviewing potential surgeons to find out their preop and postop requirements. I did and, as a result, was able to avoid those who required what, in my personal opinion, were unreasonable requirements.

Love my surgeon. No special preop diet. Postop I was back on solids at 2 weeks. First fill was at 1 month and they let me use my own judgment on when I needed followup fills and *listened* to me when making the determination of how much fill each time.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
