How long do you really go between meals?

I always lose a lot more weight when I eat every couple hours, small amounts. I don't want the band to keep me full for that long.......

Thanks for all the responses. I had a .6cc fill on Monday and am back on solids. I think I am one of those people that has to measure food, eat, stop because I don't feel hungry, wait a few minutes then feel full. From reading postings it seems like some people get a "Full stop eating sensation" and I get a "I'm not really hungry stop".

I've never figured out how anyone could 'not' be hungry on 1/2 cup a day, but are you sure your doctor was talking about 1/2 cup? There's a difference in 4 oz and 1/2 cup. 4 oz of Water = 1/2 cup...but not anything else. Perhaps he meant 4 oz as in 4 oz of Protein...or perhaps 2-3 oz of Protein plus vegies?

Last summer I was overfilled and physically limited to about 1/2 cup of 'real food' (protein and vegies) due to getting stuck all the time. I was also starving all the time and eventually resorted to sliders just to get some food into me.

I wonder about the long term viability of reducing food so drastically and being so miserable.

.

When I asked my doc (yesterday) about the 1/2 cup vs. 4oz thing she explained we were working on volume (1/2 cup) not weight because she is guarding against stretching and slippage. She said I was doing a good job following her book of rules. I did get a fill so I am not feeling so deprived. Now I am allowed up to one cup of food, or less if I feel fullness. I tried a cup of soft food tonight, and I feel better. It stuck with me. I still don't feel full, but I'm not going over her allowed amount.

I could go 5 hours. I have Breakfast around 10:00 (egg beaters/chicken breast w/ 1 piece toast) lunch around 1-2 (chicken salad & crackers) dinner 5:30-6 (ground turkey w/ cheese and salsa) and then a snack around 8 (oatmeal usually) I

I really need to remind myself to eat since my last fill. If not, I can go all day long. Whenever I go out of town, my good friend is kind enough to remind me that "we need to take a break and eat" because sometimes I just plain forget.....when I do eat, my Protein is fish, chicken, and turkey, however my MAIN Protein staple is tofu which i eat several times a week . I do drink Protein shakes....My family is awesome at helping me count my gms of protein as they are all health concious.

Good Luck Everyone...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
