If I haven't taken my Hyzaar prior to a weigh in, it can be very depressing. I totally know what you mean about the scale showing an increase for ANY reason. Just remember that you will definitely look like a champ next week! We are all going to lose a nice amt when we do our pre-op diets.

I'm betting that YOU are going to be our super star. Men lose nicely on any diet and with the restriction it will melt off of you and we are all going to be JEALOUS! LOL

Does Optifast have high Protein content? I need to decide what shake I will use for my pre-op.

Yah, Tom.. you should even feel bad..but I understand where you are coming from.. after I found out that I was approved and everything..before I had to start the pre op diet.. I was like shiiiiiiiiiiiit.. and TOTALLY OVER INDULGED! The day before I was supposed to start the pre op I had these classes to do and I was like 6 or 7 pounds heavier than my first weigh in..but I didn't care..LOL So when I weighed in for my pre op I had only lost like almost 4 lbs according to my first weigh in..but it was actually about 11 lbs because of what I had gained..

Thanks for the understanding and encouragement I'll be cheering everyone on as the poundage falls away over the next few months. I hope we all do well and I really hope your rapid weight loss prediction for me come true but not too fast I have a closet of clothes to shrink through. I'd like to wear some of this stuff at least once before I send it to Goodwil :D

Does Optifast have high Protein content? I need to decide what shake I will use for my pre-op.

14 grams per 8 oz serving (160 cals) 20 grams of carbos (almost all from surgars) 3 grams of fat and no Fiber or cholesterol at all. It gives you the equivalant in 5 shakes to almost all the Vitamins, minerals and electrolytes but it really misses in the something to chew catagory.

I've been taking my lasix and just weighed myself and (per my health-o-meter scale) I weigh in at 365, after two days on the Optifast shakes so I think the gain was mostly retained Water cause a 12 pound loss in 3 days seems a bit unlikely.

Some lost, much more to go and I am already HUNGRY!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
