Even with the nutricionist telling me I should do 3 meals only.

Before I got the lapband I was given a diet from a nutritionist she told me to eat 6 small meals a day and I was able to do that and lose alot of weight so I think I might try that again when I am able to eat food and not this mushy stuff lol

My doctor and nut want me eating 3 meals only. One, I cannot get enough calories in this way, two, I have no fill, so o get hungry in-between. So I am going to be telling then, three meals only, but do what works for me.

My dr told me three meals a day... no Snacks. He said people that eat more than that get into the "grazing" mode and you can eat way more in 6 meals than you can in three. My understanding (from my dr) was 3 meals a day... should stay satisfied between meals, no snacks. I am currently right with that schedule. Perfect restriction. Don't get hungry between meals. Losing 3 - 4 pounds a week. ( now if I could just control that late night snack, but I usually do a cheese or a yogurt) Sometimes the 3 meal thing can be hard to get your protien in.

I eat three 1/2 cup meals per day (no fill yet) plus one Jello sugar free pudding in the evening. I am supposed to be working up to 1 cup three times a day but I am just not hungry enough for that much at a time.

That is exaclty my understanding and instructions as well. If you spread it out, you eat more and don't get the 'satisfied' feeling. Not 'not hungry, but satisfied. I think there is a difference.

There's nothing wrong with eating 6 small meals per day instead of 3...particularly if you have blood sugar issues. I would also disagree with the nutritionists and doctors who believe you'll eat more calories if you eat 6 vs 3 meals. When I was eating 6 small meals, it was easier to eat less at a meal because I knew my next meal was only 2.5-3 hours away.

Most days I only eat 3 meals...but some days I'm hungrier and I find I'm more successful if I eat 6 smaller meals. So it varies.

Also, there's a big difference between eating 6 smaller meals and 'grazing'. My .02...do what you're most successful at.

I was told 3 meals a day and 2 snack in between. To never go 3-4 hours with out eating anything. And to make sure everything you eat has Protein in it of course to feel fuller longer. I'm also im the mash stage and feeling hungry every 3 hours.

I eat 3 meals, and maybe 1 snack. I'm not usually hungry enough between meals to eat a snack, but I want one after dinner. I just don't go over 5 hours w/o eating.

For me, it varies. Most weekdays I have a Protein shake for Breakfast, a midmorning snack, lunch and dinner. Sometimes I will have a midafternoon snack if I need it. On the weekends I tend to eat 3 meals a day with no Snacks because I just get too busy to think about a snack. I try to keep my Snacks high Protein and keep my calories around 1,000 per day. If I find that if my calories are too low then I don't lose anything, so if I have to have another Protein Shake at night to get the calories up to the right level then I do.

FWIW, my NUT told me I should be eating 5-6 small meals a day...

It really depends on the day for me like many others. Sometimes I eat 3 "meals" sometimes I eat 4-6 "meals".

(the word "meal" really bothers me still. I have not eaten a "meal" in 19 months.)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
