Miss Na 0 Posted January 25, 2011 I just got the ok to eat my soft foods yest very, Very, very happy about this :-). I forgot to ask if I should be counting carbs a day and how much should i have? Katy Castro 1 Posted January 25, 2011 Most post-ops that I have met can eat 60 to 80g of carbs per day. However, a lot of us are carb sensitive and find that our weight loss is better if we keep carbs to a minimum. I avoid them as much as possible and rarely have more than 20g of carbs per day... usually less. For now, I'd focus on getting in Protein and veggies. When you figure out what works best for your body, you'll know where you should be with carbs. And if you choose to eat carbs and find that they do not interfere with your weight loss, remember to go for complex carbs. As my surgeon told us "if it's white, it's not right." Miss Na 0 Posted January 25, 2011 Thanks!!! I was just wondering cause I made a protien shake with a banana and when I total up the carbs it was pretty high. I was a little suprised how high it was, but it was really high in protien and very good. I was told to eat good carbs that come in fruits. shadst8 8 Posted January 25, 2011 I find if you have good restriction and follow the Protein, veggies, then carbs--you will get very little carbs anyway, but 60-80 is good. My NUT says 100, but I do not try to do that often. As other posters said, if I do eat carbs, they are whole-grain At your stage, I would reccommend to keep doing like your doing while your body is healing and getting in your Protein and not worrying so much about carbs Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
honk 780 Posted January 25, 2011 During mushie stage I ate low/fat free cottage cheese (chive, or pineapple), low/fat free ricotta, egg whites (some people have trouble with them). I would make egg beaters and at the very end add 1/4 cottage cheese with chives sooooo yummy the cheese gets melty. I also don't worry to much about fruit since I don't eat that much of it. I am not a banana fan. You could try other fruits that would provide more intense flavor. I use to put 1/3 cup of frozen cherries in chocolate Protein shakes (mixed in blender.) Miss Na 0 Posted January 25, 2011 Thanx for the recipe Honk!! I feel I can put anything down (so far) I never had any issues with not being able to put anything (liquid) after I left the hospital. Not sure if this is a good thing or not. Yest I had low fat cottage cheese and egg whites and I ate it with no problem. I see some people are having hard time with even that. So far so good with me!! Not due for a fill until 3/08/11 so I hope I don't feel hungry all the time. But I am going to try the ricotta cheese with eggs with the frozen cherries thanks!! My carbs mainly come from vegies and if I do eat starches, it's usually rice or potatoes. I avoid wheat products and sugar, including artificial sweeteners. . stateofzen 46 Posted January 25, 2011 During the mushies stage it is pretty hard to limit carbs-- because it's a very limited diet and a lot of the approved mushy food is stuff you'd normally avoid on low-carb (yogurt, mashed potatoes). For me personally, I didn't start worrying about carbs again until I hit the soft food stage and could add in fish and well-cooked vegetables. Here are my own personal low-carb rules that work for me: no bread or breading, no Pasta, no starches (potatoes, corn, peas-- though I do eat Beans just not every day), no rice, no white flour, no processed sugar. Basically, I shop in fresh meats, produce, and cheese- the perimeter of the grocery store minus the bakery! I will occasionally add a low-carb food that has less than 10 carbs per serving for variety sake, like hummus or spinach artichoke dip to stuff mushrooms. Because I do it this way, I don't technically count carbs since all of them come from good healthy kinds of non-processed food. I do not follow this strictly. I try for more days low-carb than not. When I work up a good string of days in a row, I lose more weight, but I try to approach life in moderation, so if I have a potato or a tiny bit of Pasta once or twice a month, I don't sweat it.
