Has anyone here attended the support group meetings at the True Results - Houston / Physicians Surgi Center downtown on Main? I believe they are held on the last Thursday of each month.

I have been wanting to look into the meetings there. I was just banded on the 27th by Dr. Riley =)

I considered attending this last week, but my fill was scheduled earlier the same day and I just couldn't fathom making the drive twice in the same day. I live in Richmond.

to kflo2004 >>> CONGRATULATIONS on your lapband surgery :D. I wish you much success on your journey. How are you doing so far?

to Mrs. Doxie >>> I feel the same way about the drive, I live in Humble (northeast Houston) and making that trip downtown during rush hour really holds me back from attending the meetings. I have never been to one there and was wondering how good the attendance was.

Mrs. Doxie I also live in Richmond and was banded by Dr. Hollis on Sept 20th 2010.

I would also love to attend and did have the same concern about making the drive and maybe no-one would show up...

Why not put in this forum if we are planning to go next month so we at least have an idea how many people will attend?

Just a thought.

Hi! I'm scheduled to be banded by Dr. Riley on 02/10/11 and I had heard about the support group meetings, but was wanting further information. Like the rest of you, the drive is the killer part -- I live in Clear Lake. I wonder if we can maybe come up with a Houston Band group that meets more conveniently? Sorry to hijack the post -- I just love the idea of a support group. I don't know anyone locally that has been banded -- gastric bypass, yes -- lap band, no.

Have a great day!

I was banded by Dr. Hollis and have never attended a meeting also due to the drive. I live in West Columbia which is about 45 minutes to an hour away sometimes longer depending on traffic. I stuggle with this journey and could really use a face to face support group but I'm also concerned about making the drive and no one shows.

I'm pre-op and went tonight. There were about 10 people, I guess. Seems like maybe it's mostly the same group each month...or a lot of the same people anyway. I enjoyed it though.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
