Hi everyone, I haven't had Lap Band Surgery yet, i'm in the education process of it all but I want to know if after the surgery or significant weight loss does ANYONE have problem with loose skin. If so please share any tips or tricks you do to tighten the skin that are non surgical. I will have the surgery but if loose skin happens for me i can't afford to do plastic surgery or Tummy Tuck. Thank you for your answers.

I had significant loose skin after loosing 107 pounds. I had a Tummy Tuck and boob job last month. Very happy with the results. If your young, I think your skin might be ok. IMHO it has to do with age, weight flucuations, pregnancy et.. I believe if your skin looses elacticity there is not much you can do about it. Probably not what you want to hear, just my opinion.

I've also been told that if you smoke, or if you EVER smoked, that that will have an adverse effect on how the skin bounces back.

I also think that exercising makes a difference as if you are exercising along the process then your skin has a chance to adjust as you lose - though some folks that makes no difference, either. It is a crapshoot, but I would much rather have some saggy skin and be healthy than to be overweight and a time bomb.

I have lost 100 lbs and I have the "pannus" flap folks talk about, though small it does still cause me a rash....I wear my Ardyss Body Magic and that helps to put everything where it is supposed to be - and make me look fantastic in clothes, while feeling better about myself when I wear it, too!

Good luck!

Kim

That sucks...I dont smoke now but used to years ago...and my skin is getting loose...I hope i wont need another surgery to fix it if it is terrible looking.

A lot of different factors can contribute to this. Genetics, age, speed of weight loss, etc. Also, it can take some time for your skin to "catch up." I've heard that you're supposed to wait for a year AFTER you're done losing weight to really assess where your skin is at.

Personally, I am doing some dry brushing to stimulate circulation. I'm doing weight training to build some muscle so I'm not just (saggy) skin and bones. And I'm a bit on the older side so, while I'm hopeful, I accept the fact that I may have some skin issues.

I've spent the last 30 years obviously not giving a darn what I looked like. I'm not going to get super vain now. My goal is to be healthy and happy.

It really depends on so many things and we will all be different.

In my own case, I have lost 109 pounds am 46 years old and I have loose skin. In many areas I'm the only one who would know the skin is looser. I did quite a bit of tanning over the years and I'm sure all that sun exposure has not helped my situation. My stomach is not really bad at all, but I was only pg one time in my life and that was when I was only 16/17 years old. I have chicken/turkey neck now, but it is still better than all the fat that used to be there. My butt and thighs are a bit droopy, but they don't bother me too bad. The worst area for me is my underarms. The excess skin there is really bad. Even in my armpit area I have large bags of skin hanging. I don't know if I will ever have plastic surgery to fix my arms because most of the pictures I have seen make the scars look just as bad as the baggy skin.

My boobs are sagging, but they were already sagging. I went from big saggy boobs to smaller saggy boobs and found that a good bra does the trick.

I am 110lbs down and have loose skin on my arms. It's fine in long sleeves, but I am a little worried in a tank top or cap sleeved shirt. The difference is that before the weight loss I wouldn't have dreamed of wearing a tank top...so you win some you loose some.

As with the others, I would much rather have the weight off and struggle with fashion than struggle to get in and out of the car!

I am 24 years old and I had the lap band surgery about 2 1/2 months ago. I have lost about 27 pounds so far. Yes I see my arm really loose already : ( The rest of my body looks pretty good to me just my arms. I have another 50lbs to loose just hope my arms don't get any worse. But at the end it's a small lost compare to losing the weight, feeling better about my body and feeling healthier.

Hi, I am 62 years young. I have lost 100 lbs, and my skin is a little saggy. I think that exercise helps. But, depending on age, I think skin evenuatlly shrinks. Mine has tightened up. I agree that arms are a major problem, but seeing the scars others have, I would rather have bat wings!!!! I think at my age, I am satisfied with the way I look. My breasts sag, also, but now I can wear the cute Victoria Secrets with under wires, and they are, if not perky, not bad looking. Karen (kll724)

I asked my surgeon this question recently and he said that loose skin should not be a problem for me. (I'm 20) He said that my age plays a big factor in it, and exercise. I am exercising every day and I hope that that will keep the loose skin at bay haha.

I have lost 55 lbs in 4 months and I am sagging. My arms are flapping, so I guess I will be wearing 3/4 sleeves in the summer. My stomach is hanging somewhat and my thighs are jiggling. I wear Spanx they hold you in a lot. They even make my stomach flat and my thighs tight. And you can get high waist band and it pulls up all the way up to your bustline and holds in all the rolls in the back.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
