Mushrooms SWELL!

Recommended Posts

I had a turkey burger with a portabello mushroom for a bun and WHAM! I slimed for 15 minutes. I'm pretty sure the mushroom was swelling in my esophagus. Anyone know if mushrooms swell?

Yes, mushrooms swell. When my brother had diverticulitis and a clostomy, I made him homemade mushroom Soup. He thought I tried to kill him and made me drive him 40 miles to a dr in a blizzard (it took over 3 hours). The dr said mushrooms are known to swell and he wasn't going to die...

I do eat mushrooms but in very small bites and chewing well. Crab stuffed portabellos are awesome. Celeste

Can't do mushrooms. Which is sad because I love them cooked in butter. Wait, maybe it's not a bad thing. Again, the band is a saviour :-)

I do eat mushrooms, however I have to chew them really good. I think I have more trouble with them not digesting like regular food, they seem to stay in small pieces no matter how much I try to chew them. If I don't get them chewed up really good, then I have trouble with them.

Well that explains it then. Thanks everyone. Crab-stuffed portabellos... mmmmmm. Do you have a recipe for it, Celeste?

Oh poo :-<. Yesterday I saw a really yummy looking recipe for little pizzas made in big field mushrooms. I was going to try it! Maybe I will, whilst I'm still unfilled. I'm a bit apprehensive now though.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
