BC/BS of Georgia

Recommended Posts

:Bunny :Bunny Hello everyone.

I am begining my journey of exploring lapband surgery as a weight loss tool to improve my health as well as my self esteem. I am concerned over the insurance process all together. I was wondering if anyone had any success receiving funding from BC/BS?

Thanks:Bunny

Hi there.... I have BCBS of GA, as well.

I wondered if you've received any information on them since posting here?

I started the process for getting banded and sent all the paperwork to my surgeons office....I got a call from the lady who handles insurance who told me that she knows BCBS will ask for 5 years of physician documented weightloss attempts. This seems unreal to me... I feel totally overwhelmed now. I've moves so much over the past 10 years I can't remember where I've gone and who said what about my weight....I've gone to so many diet centers I don't know who to call and who has records, etc.

Let me know if you've gotten anywhere in the process thus far with BCBS-GA... I'd really be interested in keeping up with your approval process as well...maybe we can help each other through it.

*Not sure if they will want 5 yrs of medically supervise diet history - or just the last 5 yrs of medical records.

BCBS of CA wanted 5 yrs medical records - but only 6-12 months of doc supervised diet history.

Also - I had to write out my diet history - but it certainly wasn't all doc supervised...

Take heart! I had to fight them all the way to the state insurance board - but I won.

Good Luck!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
