Huntington Beach, CA getting banded at the Advanced Surgical Institue

Recommended Posts

Everything is moving so fast. My insurace just took effect 01/01/2011. I have been to my consult just before the end of the year. I have had my pysch evaluation already. I do my nutrition evaluation tomorrow. Then I wait for official approval. maybe a month. then I set the date. I am going to a dr. faces or something at the advanced surgical institute in Huntington Beach, Ca. Has anyone heard anything about this doctor? I hope I am making the right choice. I didn't really shop around and once I started the process I got so excited for myself and the experience that I don't want to change anything about the doctor I'm with. So far, I have gotten good reviews....yay. I am so excited. I have been waiting years now for the opportunity to switch my insurace.

Fast is better than sloooow! Weight loss is the slow part, 1 to 2 pounds a week if you're average, so why not get started ASAP?

The best of luck to you on your journey,

I have never heard of it. I was banded at the Center for Obesity at Orange Coast Memorial hospital in Fountain Valley on Jan. 17. Nice to see there are locals on this site too.

I was banded at that facility. It's a nice place, you wouldn't think it was a Surgical Center but it is :) The staff is very nice and Dr. Feiz IS THEE BEST!!! :) He is a very knowledgable doctor and your incisions are gonna be very esthetically pleasing :) Good Luck :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
