12 days post op and frustrated

Recommended Posts

I am 12 days post op. I managed to lose 20 pounds prior to surgery and have lost another 8 since surgery. The last two days and especially today I have felt non stop hunger. I have followed the diet plan but think I am probably eating too much. I don't get my first fill for another 2 weeks though. I am also exercising. On a positive note, my blood sugars are in the normal range and I haven't had to take any insulin. I guess I just need some reassurance of some sort or something. My wife had to go out of town all week and I have been here alone to learn and do what I should. It has taken all my willpower and strength to keep positive. Thanks for listening!

Hang in there my lapband-brother.being alone all week probably helped make you a little weak. You know that sometimes when we are challenged we want to eat. We must learn other things to do for comfort besides eating What I dont know .lol..We will get there together......[/

Are you keeping track of your calories? I'm starving every day (8 days post op) but realised it was because I can't get my calories over 500. I just have too difficult of a time eating that much, it goes down I'm just not able to eat much at a sitting (the whole point of the band). But I have woken up as recently as 2 AM yesterday absolutely ravenous and I downed a 14 oz muscle milk in about four minutes. It helped. So try to track your calories (thedailyplate.com has a free option and an enormous food database and an iPhone app) and see if you're falling short.

The only day I wasn't hungry was one where I ate some small Pasta shells, Soup, and whole wheat crackers. And my calories still didn't top 600 for the day.

Now that I'm approved for oatmeal, Pasta, Soups, crackers, cheese, etc. It's getting a little better and I'll be glad to get my calories back up to 1,200.

May want to look at your exercise. If you are actually exercising pretty well you may be gaining muscle mass which weights more then fat. Monitor your inches and how your clothes fit. Don't stress too much about your Lbs lost this is a healing time for you and adjusting time. Most people don't loose much from what I have read until the first few fills anyway. Good luck stay positive!

I am post-op day 16, I was also feeling like a bottom less pit post-op day 12-15. Make sure you are taking enough Protein and your Water. I purchased some products that have protein in them and don't taste like card board, like oatmeal and pudding, which are allowed by day 14. Check bariatric choices on line and they have products for all stages pre & post op. Oh & read how people rate item for taste before you buy.... comments very honest :-)..... good luck

The time between installation and our first fill can be a challenge. This will also likely happen just before every fill. Knowing that it is temporary and that it will get better helped me get through. I count myself fortunate that my doc doesn't make me wait too long between fills. (4 weeks) Hang in there!

All my trainers tell me the more you work out, the hungrier you will be. Six small meals are fine, just keep them light. I was told Protein first, then vegetable and then carbs. When I drink my Protein drinks or have the little Protein I can get down, I feel a little more satisfied, but I know what you mean. I just keep busy and it will divert your mind. If you are sitting in the house, especially alone, most people tend to eat.

Just take out your skinny pants or a picture of when you were thinner and keep it on the fridge. Look at it first, so you will make the right choices. Keep up the work and keep blogging.......

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
