For a desk job a week is plenty of time to be off. You may even be able to go back sooner is you'd like. I was myself after about 3 days. Pain was minimal. Good luck!

Hi, I too have an office job. I had surgery on Monday & attempted to go a Halloween parade Wednesday night...NO GO! Thursday, tried to go into work for just a few hours...i made it a 1/2 hr. Just wasn't comfortable sitting in my chair and still had a lot of gas pain & discomfort from my incisions. Thursday night i did make it to a different parade and was able to enjoy it but headed home as soon as the last float passed. Felt better over the weekend and back to work that Monday with some minor discomfort but doable. I can say that i've had 3 c-sections and walked within hours after each. This was much easier than those, but the gas pain was much more bothersome. Use the pillow they give you to cough, sneeze or laugh because it really does help. And i lived with my heating pad until the gas pain was gone. That helped tremendously.

It's hard to say what will work for you compared to others because we all tolerate things differently. I would say go with letting your body guide you. Prepare for needing more time than less and if it's not needed, hey that's a bonus.

Good luck with the surgery & your journey.

One week is plenty for an office job. I have a phsyical job (vet tech), and I took a week off and I probably could have gone back at like 5 days. (minus lifting animals) Was getting really bored at home. Honestly the pain for me, I was surprised at how minimal it was, I was expecting worse and for longer. Yes, the day I had the surgery, I just wanted to crawl in a ball and make it go away, but the pain meds helped a lot. The second day, was not bad and the third day the only real pain I had, was cramps from my period...LOL. Though everyones pain and pain tolerance is different, I have seen plenty of posts where people are in a lot of pain for many days. I am over 4 weeks post op now and I do still feel my incisions when I lean on something and for some reason I was very uncomfortable yesterday (not enough to go home or anything). Theis was my first surgery and I would do it again if needed, it was not bad IMO

I took a week off and it was fine. I had surgery on Tuesday 1/11 and went back Tuesday 1/18. I work in an office as well. My pain from the surgery date got a little better each day. By thurs or Fri, the only thing that hurt is if I had to cough or sneeze. Of course, everyone is different so listen to your own body and choose from there.

Good Luck!

Hi! So I too have an office job where I sit at a desk most of the day. I was banded on a Wed (1/12/11), and I took off Wed, Thur, Fri, then had Sat & Sun off, and Mon off due to a holiday. I was supposed to return on Tues, but was still not feeling well. I ended up calling in on Tues & Wed. I returned yesterday (Thursday), so I guess it worked out to a full week. Yesterday was really, really rough. Sitting is actually very uncomfortable for me because the tummy is all crunched up. It was also my first day without any pain meds, so I'm sure that made it more difficult. Today I gave in and took some pain meds, which seems to be helping. In the end I wish I would have taken the rest of this week (Thurs/Fri) off. I'm coping, but as far as being comfortable and 100% back-in-the-game, I'm definitely not. But then again, I had an additional hiatal hernia fix during my procedure, so maybe that's added to my discomfort? I dunno. :) But just in case anything happens that you weren't counting on (like a hernia, lol), be prepared to take a little extra time if you need.

Just my experience! Hope it helps! :) Good luck with your surgery!!

I work at an office and I was banded on a Wednesday and took Thursday and Friday off, I went back to work that following Tuesday (since Monday was a holiday). The only "pain" I experienced was gas pain, it was more then the previous days because I was moving around more then I had been. After Tuesday's gas pains I was good to go.

Good luck to you! :)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
