DiDi 0 Posted January 3, 2006 Hi, I'm new here & slightly computer illiterate & am trying my best to figure this thing out. At last I finally figured out how to do a new thread !!! So I'm getting there. As far as the band goes, I've had a consult & labs & got my insurance's OK but no surgery date set yet. A bit apprehensive. Just scared it won't work, mostly. Or something go wrong like slip or erosion. How frequently do these things really happen? I have read the complications thread but still curious if really happens a lot. What are PB's? Also, when I had my tubes tied laproscopically I was pumped up with so much gas that I couldn't wear any regular clothes (even my "fat" clothes) for about 2 weeks. Will that happen again? How much pain afterwards? I'm also worried I won't be able to stick to the 1 week clear non-fat liquid pre-op diet, any suggestions on what to drink? LivinNY 0 Posted January 4, 2006 Hi Diane.. What you are feeling is absolutely normal.. if you weren't apprehensive you wouldn't be normal.. its surgery and no matter how you look at it its scary... I had my tubes tied laproscopically also and I have to tell ya.. its about the same.. I did have trouble with the gas but it passes.. and the doctor gave me a shot to help with the gas... but everyone is different so.. I did have a lot of trouble with swelling afterwards and my clothes did feel a bit snug but it passed pretty quickly. A PB is a productive burp... when you over eat or if a piece of food gets stuck your body automatically begins to produce a very thick saliva... that gets a bit backed up and you will end up puking it up... (sorry couldn't think of a nicer way to put it)... its not like throwing up ... its only what is in your pouch.. You WILL stick to your liquid pre-op diet... you must.. you have to keep telling yourself that... it is ONLY one week.. you can do it.. you can do it... and it will help you get through the few weeks after banding with the liquids... YOU CAN DO IT!! and please believe me when I say its so worth it... it took a few months for me to get to good restriction and I did start feeling like... why did I do this to myself... but that was before restriction... I love my band... Please keep in touch and let me know how you are doing.....

doubletrouble 0 Posted January 5, 2006 Welcome The pre-op diet is very doable. I had to do two weeks of liquid diet. You just need to get yourself into a mind set. It is easier than when you start a diet in the past. In the past the diet was suppose to be for a lifetime. this diet is for only seven days and there is a goal (surgery) waiting for you if you comply. Actually the first couple of days is the hardest and then it just beomes normal. You cannot focus on what you cannot have you have to focus on what you will have (weight loss success). The BPing is similar to when a baby spits up. There i

DiDi 0 Posted January 5, 2006 Much thanks to all of you. I feel better now. However, now I have to do an additional test (echo stress test) before we can set a surgery date. Oh well, not too much longer. Be here 'fore I know it! Thanks again.
