Recommended Posts

Ok all you cooks. Help me out. I am a mom of 3 and i work. I love my crock pot but so far can only make chili and chicken and buscuits in it. Shoot me some good ideas that will be good with the band and yummy for the kiddos to eat. My friend just gave me a good 1 for lasagna. Can't wait ot try it and will post it here if its good :)

I love lemon chicken! A whole chicken and just some 2 lemons and some orange zest. Put one cut lemon in the chicken cavity. Some chick stock and cook on low all day. also ill take chick breasts and a can or two of fav salsa and bake in there. I serve with some homemade WW tortilla chips and homemad guacamoli and some pinto Beans with sauteed onions and cumin.

Another good recipe is beef and veggie stew. The beef gets super tender cooking all day.

Now Im going to go see what I can make for dinner tomorrow!

Pot roast is easy in a crockpot. I put in a big piece of meat, approximately 3lbs worth, dump in a bag of frozen pearl onions, a bag of frozen baby carrots, onion Soup mix if you want, a can or two of tomatoes (if you want), put the lid on and turn it on low. I used to start this at about 7am and by the time I got home late afternoon, it would be done. You can also add frozen green Beans. For the people in the house who still eat potatoes ( I don't eat them now, except in very tiny amounts), I boiled them separately after getting home. Potatoes would cook to mush in a crockpot I'm afraid.

Spark People has a whole section on crock pot recipes. I use this web site a lot for my cooking because the recipes seem good (and the ones I have made are) but also all recipes have nutritional information. I won't make a recipe unless it has the nutritional info so this site is ideal. Www.sparkpeople.com. Click on recipes. You can also do a search for crock pot

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
