Heartburn and tightness all of a sudden!

Recommended Posts

Ok need some advice here please....

I was banded 5/20/10 have lost 85 lbs to date (20 till goal!!!) Had my last fill on 11/8/10. I have 3.5cc's in my 10cc band. I have felt awesome up to today....eating less than a cup of food at a time and feeling satisfied for three to four hours. Ok that's my background...now on to my issue.

This morning I woke up and had my normal 4oz of OJ and 6oz of thin oatmeal (i have this almost every mirning cuz I'm pretty snug in the morning) and about 15 minutes after eating I have horrible heartburn! So I have some milk (usually helps) and still had HB....so fastforward to dinner... Had HB aaalll day no matter what so for dinner I had thin Soup. Nithing has tiuched the heartburn.

MyQuestion is should I get an unfill or wait it out? Why would I get tight all of a sudden? Do any of you think it couldbe tightness because of my menstrul cycle (should start in like 5 days...)

This Has just never happened so I thought I'd ask my friends on here. Thanks!!!

Oh and nithing has gitten stuck or anything.

I was unable to get my first fill because I had HB. My doc told me that it was a sign of my band telling me that 1)I'm eating too fast and not chewing my food as much as I shud. 2) I wasn't eating the right food and my band isn't agreeing with it. 3) I'm eating too much. Definitly wasn't 2 or 3. So I started to eat slower with a CONSTANT reminder in my head that if I didn't I was gonna get heart burn. Well it worked! Haven't had HB since I've been eating slower and chew more. Good luck to u guys and hope u get through it.

Trish, call your doc this morning and tell them what's going on. I don't know if they'll want you to come in for an unfill right away or if they will want you to take a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) such as Prilosec or Prevacid for a few days and see if it helps, but call and see.

I think I'd consider going without the OJ for a bit and see if that helps. It might be too acidic for you since banding. Probably a good idea to have had Soup for dinner. Does warm tea seem to help the issue any?

Are you getting enough Water? Are there other stressors in your life right now? Allergies? Just trying to think of outside causes that might make you tighter besides menstrual cycles.

Let us know what the doc says. Hope you feel better soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
