So I go to the hospital today for pre registraition. They gave me the # to call the anesthesia company to make sure my insurance covers them, and they don't!!! Wtf didn't they have all this figured out already??? I'm guess it would cost thousands out of pocket. So I. Called the surgeons office and told them I need an anesthesiologist that is covered by tricare. So stupid. If they can't do it, I guess ill have to cancel surgery. Oh and to top it off I had to pay my program fee which turned out to be $1500! They are worth every penny, but holy cow!

Wow, I would have figured they would have that taken care of. I'm sorry you have to wait longer though. :-(

I am sure you are not the only patient that has Tri-Care so they should already have an anethesiologist

on hand... but I guess it would depend on his schedule if he is available the day of your surgery.....

Has anyone else had to pay out of pocket for their anesthesiologist?

They are having a meeting about it on Monday. Weird.

Wow, I think that is terrible. I live in Chicago and have Blue Cross Blue Shield. I only had to go to 3 in-office appointments. The 2nd and 3rd appointment I saw the psych doctor and was scheduled for the upper GI through the center. When I went for my blood draw, I saw the anesthesiologist and my surgery is scheduled for 1/27(God willing). I did an online seminar, which was great. I think it has a lot to do with your insurance provider.

It's not really the insurance it's the hospital. After reading stories similiar to the one above; I specifically asked when I went to meet with the Anesthesiologist. He said that every person who provides care at my hospital are employees of the hospital; and they all take the same insurance. Some hospitals contract out the anesthesiology departments. Sooooo that means the anesthesiologist is basically a separate company than your surgeon. I think that is the most rediculous thing EVER. You should'nt have to ask ever person at the hospital "Do you take my insurance?"

My anesthesiologist is "out of network" and the fee is usually around $800 my bariatric coordinator told me. My insurance will pay half but it sucks, that is who is on the schedule and so that is who I have to use. I cold probably have chosen a different day .....? But decided what the hell, lets just do this thing..

Maybe you could call and ask...ball park...how much is the fee for the anesthesiologist?

I guess I'll find out Monday. Sucks. My husband is a Marine, we don't have hundreds of extra dollars laying around.

I was self pay on the entire thing but my anesthesiologist was from a separate company and his charge was $1500.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
