New Bee!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!! I am in need of some serious advise, I am a 21 year old female that has been struggling with my weight all my life and I have tried many diets and many extreme measures like boot camp style fitness which has helped me I loose 20 pounds last year and I have been able to keep it off however I have been in a plateau for the past 6 months or so and just cannot loose anymore, I am considering getting the lap band surgery since I do have another 70 pounds to go however I am wondering if this would be a wise decision since it is a lifetime "procedure" although you can reverse it, it is ment to stay in place. My question to you guys is what made you finally decide to do it? And how does it feel like, I mean after the procedure do you feel different?

Thanks for any advice!

Congrats on managing to keep your 20 pounds off! The reason why I had surgery is that I couldn't waste another year of my adult life being severly overweight. I have been over 200 pounds since the age of 12 or 13 and it just kept getting worse as I got older. Some people can say that I could have done it without the band but I really don't think so because being fat and my habits is all I have know since childhood. I have lost weight in the past before but it always came back. I am hoping with this band it will never come back again! Good luck! BTW...I don't feel any different as a person with the band. I am just happy I can get out of bed in the morning without pain!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
