can't you have caffeine? You poor thing. I was able to have coffee and tea with sweetener, and I put non dairy Creamer in it too. They didn't want me to use the dry creamer (clear liquid diet), but said it was okay if I really wanted/needed it.

I have the worse headache today! I started my liquid pre op diet today so I know its cuz I have no caffeine in me!!! Ugh

I went to my pre op appt. today and my doctor said don't stop caffeine all at once.... hence the headache... they said taper it down by 1/4 each day to allow your brain time to adjust. They said the ppl that don't do it ahead of time have a really hard time on surgery day. I use to drink 3 cups of coffee a day and am now down to a 1/2 a cup and haven't had a bad headache yet. Tried cold turkey before and thought my head was going to break in half from the pain. Much better this time...we are not aloud coffee at all for the first month after surgery, too acidic and your stomach needs time to heal.

That's odd, I kept on drinking my caffeine til doomz day. And I was asleep during surgery so I didn't have a caffeine headache LOL :)

Diet Coke used to be my best friend! (along with M&M's) That was all I drank and had A LOT of it. It took me 4 days to get over the caffiene withdrawl before surgery and BOY am I glad I did it before surgery!! I didn't need anything else to deal with the first week after surgery. Hang in there....it will pass! I had headaches and BAD depression but it was sooooo worth it! I now drink caffiene free coffee and an occasional glass of regular tea but I can say I'm no longer addicted!!! Its a really good feeling!! YOU CAN DO IT!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
