Mystery solved

Well I had been dreading telling my boss that I needed off to go to a consult for the lapband. I am the office manager in a small office and have been for 10 years so, yes, I needed to tell him why I would be off. We are good friens so I don't have a problem with him knowing but......

He kinda shook his head, and I told him that I didn't want his opinion. He said ok but then said well have you tried losing it on your own with diet and exercise. Well yes for about 20 years. He said no I mean really try and stick to it, all you have to do is burn more calories than you eat. So there is the answer, boys and girls, just exercise and diet, lol . I told him I could lose 20 pounds pretty easy but then get comfortable and after awhile I gain 25 back. I need to really get it all off. Oh, well I didn't expect him to understand but it did make me feel like a failure :(

If I had a nickle for the number of times I lost and regained 60 lbs I would be a rich woman. But like you and most of us on this site... we didnt try or didnt keep the weight off becasue we didnt stick to it. We failed our diets or our diets failed us. Pick a reason.

For me being more 200 lbs overweight the thought of the time spent exercising and dieting only to gain it back again when I stopped "dieting" was overwhelming. Thats when I decided to look into the band.

I am on my way.... having lost 50 lbs in the first 2 months... but I have a very long way to go and at times.. I stll secretly wonder if I will actually be able to do it. I am planning to do it. I am on track to do it but deep down I have no recent recollection of being 150 lbs (ok..it was way back in high school) so its hard to imagine.

But every day I get up and eat what I am supposed to and I am not hungry (for the most part) and I am losing weight. So my confirmation that I WILL reach my goal looks at me in the mirror every morningy!

Tell your boss to explain to me why that is a failure!B)

Best of luck to you! Can't wait to see your progress.

Oh I know how you feel. The morning of my surgery (last Tuesday) I almost bolted for the door. I couldn't believe I had let myself get to the point where I needed surgery to help me lose weight. Hey, if it was easy as diet and exercise, we wouldn't be in this situation. People who don't have food issues, just don't get it! I guarantee you, if there was a surgery to stop smoking or stop drinking, everyone would be on the bandwagon. With weight, the general opinion, you're just lazy and you eat too much! It's so maddening. Most of us have dieted our way up to our current weight, I know I have. The success rate of losing 100 lbs and keeping it off are so slim it would make you cry. Now, if you spend 6-7 hours a day in the gym like the folks on biggest loser, you can pull that off but that's not a realistic way to live for regular people. With the help of the band, you will be able to eat less of really good healthy food and be satisfied. It is just a tool but there a tons of success stories out there and I'm going to be one of them. I hope you will be too!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
