7 months post op and looking to start dating. Wondering how you fellow banders handled a first date / first few dates ...

I feel comfortable eating out with people who know I've been banded, but for those that don't know its obvious that I'm not eating much. I'm not really sure I'm comfortable telling a guy 1st thing about my band ... I've only told a few people ... I just feel it's not everyone's business.

You could use the ole "bellyache" story. Or you could just tell them that you are trying to be healthier and watching what you eat. You could do what I do when I am out with folks who don't know I've been banded for every one bite I eat, I push 2 bites around on my plate...lol! I bet once you start talking and enjoying each others company that he won't even notice that you haven't cleaned your plate. Good luck :D

The push food around is a good strategy.

I made a rule for myself though...I will not date anyone who did not show interest before the weight loss. Not that there were too many who did show interest. Now some friends of friends who I knew before have asked about me and I will NOT entertain these people now that I look better.

I am now with a very old ex who has known me in varying shapes and sizes and he is super supportive.

Good Luck

I am right there with you TracyNYC! I have had a few guys all of a sudden show interest now that my body is changing (again but that's a long story..lol) I told them each to get lost! You didn't look at me once in all the years you've known me and now I am so fascinating? I don't think so...lol! Go waste somebody else's time! :P

Thanks for that Jennibee. My friends (happily fat and married friends) Think that my attitude is "too picky". So, I guess after all these years, I should hook up w/ a superficial louse?

I am not too proud to admit I like the appreciative looks from guys. LOL

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
