Is this stupid...?

I'm having surgery Friday and no pre-op diet was required. I started dieting a couple of days ago voluntarily, however, and started all Clear Liquids today. I figured it would help me get past the cravings early and start disciplining myself.

Well, I'm HUNGRY (of course)! Should I just eat and enjoy these last few days of good food, or am I making the right decision?

I also did my own thing until doc put me on preop. But I think you only need clears the day before. Have you called doc and asked his opinion?

I would try and control your eating habits now prepare yourself for your post-banded life. IMO if you eat everything you want know it may remind you of what you think you might be losing as far as food goes. You may start to focus on that instead of the changes ahead. Good Luck

Honestly, I'd try to relax. You don't have a pre-op diet, so there's no need to be on liquids. I was eating real food until 12 hours before surgery. That was all my doctor required. I know many people on here think that the pre-op liquids get you read for the post=op diet, but I don't agree. After surgery, I wasn't hungry at all and liquids were no big deal. 2 weeks before surgery, I would have been miserable. There's no need to go a feeding frenzy. You are still going to eat again, but I don't think the liquids are necessary. Just follow your doctor's

orders. ...and good luck with your surgery.

I didn't have a pre-op diet either. But my surgeon instructed me not to eat heavy the day before the surgery. So I just watched my calorie intake and relaxed. Good luck!

I totally understand! The pre op is to shrink the liver making it easy for the surgeon..mine doesn't require one either, but for my own piece of mind I thought i'd help her out :-)...based on what I've researched, high Protein, less fat...chicken (not fried), turkey, leafy green veggies and a Protein Shake to coat your tummy are just some of the things I have tried. I've lost almost 5lbs just doing that every other day or so and I have more energy! Good luck!

I'm seeing this late...but what did you wind up doing? Personally, if my doc didn't require it.. I sure as hell wouldn't have done it! Goodl luck with surgery tomorrow hon!!

Same here - if my doctor didn't require it I would not have done it! Though I was lucky compared to others - i only had 3 days of "full liquids" - I could still eat oatmeal, cottage cheese, yogurt, thin Soups etc.

I was just told not to have a heavy dinner the night before. I didn't have to do any pre-op diet. I enjoyed my favorite place for lunch knowing that rice may be one of the things that I may not be able to tolerate after surgery. Just find a happy medium!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
