Okay so I have two more nights of work then Friday I will go shopping for what I will need at the hospital and immediately post op.... So help me pack my bag. What do I get? What could you not live without? What were you wishing you would have thought to bring to the hospital or have waiting and ready at home.

Hey Rachel. I'm doing my shopping today for surgery on Friday. I only have to stay one night though, so it won't be much. Here's what I'll be sure to take with me:

Lightweight robe

Slippers

hair bands

Brush

Lip balm

Isopure Zero Carb fruit Protein drink (if they let me drink it...)

Deodorant

Baby Wipes for freshening up in bed

Travel Shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste, and facial wash

Socks

Fresh underware / bra

My Nook for reading

Cell Phone

Gas-X Strips (recommended by doctor)

I think that's about it?

How long are you staying? Overnight 23 hours or a couple of days? I wouldnt take too much if your coming home the next day except something to read, your own PJ's and toiletries. If your just getting banded you proably will be on a liquid diet or so after surgery so I wouldnt take any thing to drink because you dont know what they will want you to have.

Are you satying overnight, because if you are outpatient like me, I did not need anything

I'm outpatient but my dr.'s office gave me a list of things to bring. On my list is chapstick, a robe, slippers, facial wipes, and a pillow from home. =)

I stayed overnight and the only thing I actually felt UP to using (that were allowed) were my cell phone (to surf the web), a change of clothes, my CPAP, and a pillow for the ride home. I stayed in hospital issued clothes (gown, robe, and booties) the whole time and was not allowed to use any meds brought from home, including my prescriptions and Gas-X. Too tired to read; you might want a wash cloth to freshen up (I certainly wanted to) but was in too much pain to bend over and brush my teeth (but bring a toothbrush just in case!) Wouldn't bring any food or drinks; they moniter that pretty closely and there's really no need.

Bring a pillow, this helped me on the drive home. Every bump hurt but holding the pillow against me really made a difference. Are you going to be inpatient? I was outpatient, I didn't even bring my cell phone or bother wearing a bra, how scandalous!. I brought a pillow, gas-x, a hair tie, lip gloss and my compact... I'm high maintenance lol I never leave home without a least gloss and a compact!

Well I don't know really. He said that prepare to be inpatient but he did not mind if I went home. So I guess just in case something happens and they have to make me stay over night.

What about at home? What was helpful in the first few days? I think everyone agrees on gas x but was there anything else that helped make the healing process better? Or a favorite liquid item?

I was there for 23 hours. i took my smartphone, a clean pair of undies and a puzzlebook in case I got bored. I didn't feel that good to get bored! Everyone is right, you cannot bring in medications and they do monitor what you are drinking. The hospital had a weight loss center so they give out tote bags with information and a big yellow pillow with a smiley face. I did use the pillow. You are suppose to hold it against your stomach when you have to cough. Have things ready for when you get home. This includes what you can drink. I had Decaf coffee and Isopure. Make sure you have whatever prescriptions the doctor gave you filled.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
