Acid Reflux

Recommended Posts

Posted this in pre-op, but got no replys. Guess it really goes here...

So, I finally got around to telling my DH about my plan to have this surgery. He is very supportive of me, although he did say I didn't need it. He says I'm not fat I'm just fluffy.. Anyway, his main concern is that it may cause me to have acid reflux. My dad had it really bad, then GURD, then he ended up having to have his esophagus removed... Not nice... So, even though I've never had much of a problem there, I am concerned. Does anyone have experience with it?

I had acid reflux every night of my life for several years until I had the surgery. Have not had it since! Not even Once!!! Love my lap band!

I think if your band is too tight or has slipped you could experience it, but I have absolutely no problems with it.

Good Luck!

I had my surgery two years ago. For the first year and a half I had my band set at 7cc and it was way to tight, sometimes I couldn't even swallow Water without it sitting in the back of my throat first and then going down.

Now I am at 5cc and for whatever reason it is now, that I am having major acid reflux every night it seems and heart burn. Not sure what the cause of this is, but it is disheartening as I haven't lost any weight in almost 4 months and am very worried that it is because the band has possibly slipped or something.

Any feedback on this would be sincerely appreciated and helpful.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
