I was banded 1-11-11 so I am 6 days post-op. I keep reading how people banded around the time I was are already 'working out'. My question is, how? I have no pain other then at my port site. When I walk a feel like the bouncing of my belly makes it feel worse so I hold pressure on that area so it can't bounce. I am 222lbs, so I don't think I'm all That big but I would love to work out right now. Anyone else have this problem or is it just me? I want to work out! Also, Doc says no lifting over 10lbs for 1 month. I have a 20lb dog that pulls when I walk her, bad idea?

Do what feels good for you, with the understanding that you won't be fully healed for four to six weeks and if you overdo it now you'll slow down your long term progress.

It was three weeks before i could hit the elliptical another week before i started Zumba.( I was able to walk on the treadmill a little sooner.) I was sore at the port area & even now almost 3 months post op, depending on the exercise my port area still gets sore. Just depends on how much i work the ab muscles. I talked to my doc and he said to go as i feel comfortable but he's never had a port come unattached. I say, talk to your doc but you know your body best. Take it slow & let it guide you.

I was banded on 1/11 too! I am at 228 lbs now. I haven't started working out yet - I wasn't doing it before I was banded and I don't feel terrific. I have some tightness in my chest. My plan is to get on the eliptical or treadmill for 1/2 each night this week. How many calories are you taking in at this point each day.

Walking the dog that pulls (esp if he/she is big) sounds like a possible problem to me ... if your arm/chest area gets pulled to hard. I used to have a rottweiller that could get close to pulling my arm out of the socket :). Now my dog is 10lbs!.

Mom2amwt,

I just started counting calories today. I am using the loseit! App on the iPhone which told me I am allowed 1500 calories to lose 2 lb/wk. I would like to lose a little more then that so today I ate 1200 calories but I am starving! I'm hoping this gets easier. How many calories are you consuming? Are you still on liquids?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
