I think my port moved

Recommended Posts

Yesterday was my first full day out. (I am 19 days post op) I wore a girdle and it was comfortable; I was in it for about 11 hours. This morning my port site was tender. I really think my port has moved over some. Is this strange or typical?

I just got a fill on friday and kind of talked about it with my doc!

The port doesn't move. He said it's anchored pretty well to the abdominal wall... BUT the skin and fat over it DO move... with weight loss, position, etc it can appear that your port is several inches away from where it was, but in actuality it's just the outer stuff moving... I was worried because I noticed a hard lump about 4 inches above my port that's been tender after sleeping on my stomach and I can only feel the lump while standing... he felt it and said it was my port. But when I lay down for my fill my port is right next to my port scar... weird

My port moved and was stuck almost upside down between my ribs. About three weeks ago I had to have it moved and now it's lower and stitched in place. So, yes, it can move. Mine stuck out so far from being caught between where my ribs come together that I couldn't hug anyone cuz it would push on the port. It's much better now!! (I am a side sleeper and I'm assuming it wasn't stitched before and that 's why it moved.)

Ok, thanks. It probably was my fat moving around after wearing the girdle.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
