Newbee Bander here! I have so many things going through my mind at this time. Is the weight I have lost average four weeks post op? Are others afraid they are eating too much even though you know you are not? I get excited about what the scale says , then I look in the mirror and feel I should see more. I have been feeling good about everything up until this last week.

You don't say how much you lost- but whatever it is is great. The first few weeks are for healing, not weight loss. Follow your docs. instructions as far as your intake. Measuring your food and journaling what you eat may help you in eating the correct amount. Excersise is also great, increases your metabolism so you burn more calories all day long. Good luck!

How much have you lost? Remember this isn't the bypass you aren't, typically, going to drop 100 lbs in just a few months it is going to take a lot more time. Its only been 4 weeks, give it some time, this isn't a magic wand, you will get there if you follow your doctors orders. Don't get discouraged.

Sorry Vlp, this was the post I wanted to post.

I got banded on December 23rd. I am kinda feeling wierd myself at this time, because I have lost weight but am unsure about if I am doing my food right. I worry all the time if I am getting enough Protein, am I drinking enough Water, am I drinking too much Water. I so want to succeed in this. My starting weight was 217 and I am at 195 as of yesterday. I look in the mirror and I see it a little but not like I feel I should. The scale says one thing but the mirror shows me something different..

Rowdee-

The scale is moving down, that is what matters. I was banded 12/27 and right now I am focused on finishing healing and learning to live with this band. I have not had an adjustment yet. As far as Protein goes, I have been told to target 60 grams per day. Water/Fluids, 64 ounces per day. I know what you are saying about the scale saying one thing and seeing something different in the mirror. But I have to keep in mind the the weight is spread all over my body, so the weightloss is just spreadout. Eventually we will see it, but we have looked at the same body for a long time.

Be patient, do the right things and all will be well.

I have had several people that I don't see on a regular basis mention that it looks like I've lost some weight. One actually said "wow Jenn how much weight have you lost?" My daughter who sees me every single day said that she can see a difference in my also. She said "your belly looks smaller" lol. When I look in the mirror I still see the same face, the same belly and butt. I think it's more in my mind's eye and how I interpret it though. I was way off track for way too long and two weeks ago decided it was time to get my head right and go back to doing what I know how to do. I have lost 11 pounds and I am more committed than ever. Hearing that I actually look like I've lost weight was an even bigger motivator! Just give yourself time, do what your dr. tells you to do and you'll do amazing! Good luck on your journey!

Rowdee, congrats on the weight loss! If there is one thing i've learned within this group the last 3 months, it's that no one loses at the same rate, eats the same foods or the same amounts or exercises the same. That makes it very hard to compare your loss with anyone else. But you are losing and that's YOUR goal. Set up some goals for yourself, both big & small, and then accomplish them on your own pace. Do not worry about how you stack up to the rest of us. Keep up the great work, get your exercise in and keep making healthy choices!! Best of luck with your journey.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
