Hello Banders I am a new member and I am excited!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I was banded on 20th Dec 2005 in The Ave Private Hosp Melbourne Australia - I was scheduled the month before but I changed my mind and changed my mind again. I feel great! Apart from the annoying gas and sometimes shoulder tip pain I am roaring and ready to go. My sister was banded several months ago and she has been sick every day (hence my decision to cancel) But she has now discovered she has gaustones and needs an op to remove the gaubladder. I havent felt hungry at all and forget to drink my Soup. Is it common to feel hungry? I have lost 7 kilos already!

Hope you are well!

cheers

Alicia

Welcome and good luck on your journey. There was a thread posted a few days ago listing the various thoughts and hurdles to face in the upcoming months. See if you can find it, it lists different phases like, hunger, what have I done, etc.

Hi

I am a new member. I have not had the band, however am seriously considering it and just wanted to look at the website to see what peoples reactions have been. All great. Am unsure what to do next. Did you visit different surgeons or go on recommendations. Am in the UK. I have ordered a few brochures today to have a look. Any tips for me

I was banded on 12/28, so I'm more recent post-op. I haven't weighed myself, but I'll make my 3 weeks out appointment tomorrow for a couple more weeks and weigh in there. Congrats on your weight loss. What I've learned from everyone here is that we're all different and what works for me may not work for others. I was hungry on day 3 but have stuck to the liquids as required by my doctor's diet. I enjoy reading everyone's experiences because I know I'm not alone. Good luck healing and welcome to LBT!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
